A 27-year-old woman, identified as Esther Akwaji, has died under unclear circumstances after reportedly collapsing at her boyfriend’s residence in Dei-Dei, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to reports, Akwaji, a resident of Nasarawa State, was visiting family members in the FCT before the incident. On January 21, she reportedly left her family home, saying she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei, but did not return.
Family members later received a phone call from a man who identified himself as her boyfriend and used her mobile phone. He reportedly told them that Akwaji had visited him and that he had bought food for them to eat.
The man allegedly said that while they were eating, Akwaji suddenly began vomiting and collapsed. He claimed he rushed her to Kubwa General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead on arrival.
Sources said the boyfriend fled the hospital shortly after doctors pronounced her dead and has remained unreachable since then. His identity has not yet been officially established.
The FCT Police Command has confirmed the incident and said an investigation is underway. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the case is being treated as suspicious.
“The corpse has been deposited for autopsy to determine the actual cause of death, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect,” Adeh said.
Police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Akwaji’s death.
