Yoruba group emerges winner of Kaduna cultural day events

The Yoruba students cultural groups on Thursday defeated their Hausa, Fulani, Nupe, Gbagyi and Kanuri counterpart to emerged overall winner of ‘Womanhood College of Health Science and Technology’ cultural day celebration held in Kaduna State.

The six weeks colourful annual cultural events organised by the school located in Agwan Dosa premises in Kaduna North LG, showcased different cultured display including dancing, foods/diets, singing, traditional magic among other interesting episode tied to their various culture.

Addressing journalists, the Director of the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Nurudeen Bello, said the concept is to used the annual cultural day for unity and as a unifying factor.

The Director said “We’re looking at it from the concept of unity, as a unifying factor. As a none faith and NGO, we brings all ethics group and all religious groups together, right from inception.

“Most of our children today don’t believe or know other people’s culture because of the polarized nature of states, most especially Kaduna State.

“We’re highly polarized in Kaduna, somebody born in Kawo 10years ago don’t know what’s happening beyond Kaduna bridge in Southern part, and vis-versa.

“It’s not suppose to be so, because we grew up seeing our fathers leaving together in Kaduna without religious and ethnicity disharmony but humanity only.

“That’s why we organize this cultural events to bring the children together to teach them that we’re one and can be one and united through culture. Harvesting the cultural can bring unity in diversity. Ie we bring up the annual cultural Programmes”, he said.

Also speaking, Pastor Y. Buru, pointed out that “Our parents used culture to unit and hold us together in the past.Today it had been abandon that’s why we have this trouble and problems everywhere.

“Culture is vital to peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding. Even our religious is not against culture as along as it’s not abused or misused, and can be used to promote peace”, he said.

Pastor Buru therefore noted that culture is power”, describing the cultural events as wonderful performance and beautiful presentation

He also said despite our ethnics, religion and tubal differences, the students happily teamed up and come together to present, showcase their culture.

While commending the organiser, Buru expressed delight seeing Yoruba students cerebrating with Gbagyi, Hausa, Kanuri, Fulani and Nupe including boys and girls on equally and friendly.

“Govt should introduce cultural display in all our primary and secondary like we used to do in those days even up to university. In olden days there’re cultural days in polytechnics and universities. Calling on government to do the needful saying what is essence of having ministry of culture.

Speaking to Journalists, the National President national parents teachers association of Nigeria, Haruna Danjuma, who was grace the occasion, said he find the cultural event so interesting, and promised to reinvigorate it all school again.

“I find the cultural events very interesting, educative. I’ve said it before that organizing this kinds of event that brings children together is important. They team up together, cheers and share ideas themselves. We forgot that we’re from one place.

“The only way to preserve the culture is what the children are doing now in cultural events. Modern days children are trying to shy away from culture unlike those days when our four fathers preserved the cultures. It’s a serious means of unifying factor”, he said.

Hausa, Gbagyi and Fulani follow closely with interesting performance and magical cultural display respectively.
