YouTube said late Tuesday it had resolved a widespread outage that disrupted access for hundreds of thousands of users worldwide.
Monitoring site Downdetector recorded more than 300,000 reports of problems at the peak of the disruption around 0100 GMT. The number of reports began declining shortly afterward.
At the height of the outage, users visiting the platform’s homepage were met with a message asking them to return later.
By 0400 GMT, journalists were able to access the site, confirming that services had largely been restored.
“The issue with our recommendations system has been resolved and all of our platforms (YouTube.com, the YouTube app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV) are back to normal!” the company said on its help page.
Earlier, the platform had explained that a malfunction in its recommendations system prevented videos from appearing across several services, including the homepage, the main app, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids.
Owned by Google, YouTube is the world’s largest video-sharing platform, with more than 2.5 billion monthly active users.
