Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has reacted to speculations that he may emerge as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 general election, saying leadership does not require perfection.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, Dogara said nation-building across history has been driven by ordinary individuals, not flawless personalities, stressing that imperfection does not disqualify one from leadership.
He noted that although he does not consider himself fully prepared for higher office, his political journey has given him what he described as a “rich pedigree,” adding that everything he has achieved is by the grace of God.
Dogara highlighted his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives, during which he ranked as the fourth-highest public officer in Nigeria, saying the position exposed him to critical aspects of governance and national responsibility.
He added that the role gave him access to knowledge and experience many may not have, but maintained that he remains aware of his limitations, stating plainly that he is “not perfect.”
