Legendary Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has penned a heartfelt open letter to mark his 25th anniversary in the music industry, expressing deep gratitude to those who have shaped his remarkable career.
In the emotional note titled “Open Letter of Gratitude: 2Baba @ 25 Years in the Industry,” the multiple award-winning artist reflected on his journey, describing it as one filled with gratitude, memories, lessons, and love.
“As I stand on the threshold of 25 years in this incredible journey called music, my heart is full of gratitude, memories, lessons, and love,” he wrote.
“This celebration is not mine alone. It belongs to everyone who played a role in shaping the story of Innocent Idibia — 2Baba.”
The music icon, whose influence has transcended generations, used the letter to honour several industry veterans who played pivotal roles in his rise to stardom.
He paid special tribute to Nelson Brown, who discovered and nurtured the Plantashun Boiz group that launched his career alongside Faze and Blackface.
“You were the first to see light in the dream of three young men when no one else believed,” 2Baba wrote.
“You gave us a voice when we barely had a microphone, a space when all we had was a dream.”
He also expressed appreciation to Kenny Ogungbe (Baba Keke) and Dayo Adeneye (D1), describing them as mentors whose support opened doors that changed the trajectory of his career.
“You opened doors that led us from dreams to destiny. We made history together; we won together.
You stood as mentors and big brothers, and your names will forever be etched in my story,” he noted.
2Baba further lauded Eddie Lawani for providing early performance opportunities when the group had little exposure, and DJ Jimmy Jatt for his enduring friendship and loyalty throughout the years.
The “African Queen” crooner emphasized that his milestone is not just a personal celebration, but a tribute to everyone who contributed to the evolution of Nigerian music and helped position Afrobeats on the global stage.
“Without the people who believed, corrected, and supported me, my story would have been incomplete,” he added.
From his humble beginnings in the late 1990s with Plantashun Boiz to becoming one of Africa’s most respected musical voices, 2Baba’s legacy includes timeless hits such as “African Queen,” “If Love Is a Crime,” “For Instance,” and “True Love.”
As he marks 25 years in music, 2Baba continues to stand as a symbol of resilience, innovation, and authenticity — inspiring younger generations to believe in their dreams and remain true to their sound.
