The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release businesswoman Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours.
Justice Inyang Ekwo on Wednesday also directed that all parties involved must return to court on May 2 to give an update on the situation.
Recall that Achimugu was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering, was told to appear before the EFCC.
The court had earlier instructed her to present herself to the agency to assist in the probe, which also involves charges of conspiracy, fraud, and illegal possession of assets believed to have been acquired through unlawful means.
Following her appearance at the EFCC office, the agency was expected to return to court with her for further updates.
Her arrest took place around 5 a.m. on Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Although Achimugu had been previously arrested and released on administrative bail, the EFCC later accused her of failing to honour the bail terms and declared her wanted.
The court’s new order is aimed at ensuring her release and compliance with due legal process while the case continues.
The parties are expected to report back to the judge on Thursday.
