Gombe Police Arrest Two in Cross-Border Motorcycle Theft Case

Date:

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cross-border motorcycle theft syndicate and recovered three stolen motorcycles in separate operations carried out in Akko Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday, noting that the operations followed a tip-off from a vigilant community member.

According to the statement, officers from Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madawaki, raided a suspected hideout in Tudun Hayin Kwarai, Misau district, on July 7, 2025.

The suspects—identified as 25-year-old Misba’u Adamu from Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi State, and 28-year-old Adamu Ibrahim from Garko LGA, Kano State—allegedly confessed to stealing two motorcycles from the residence of one Mohammed Usman around 4:00 a.m. on July 6.

The stolen motorcycles, a Qlink Cassie (reg. no. ABC 484 WN) and a Hero Hunter (reg. no. GME 36 QL), are valued at approximately ₦1.8 million and were recovered from the premises of a man named Babangida, who is currently at large.

Abdullahi said efforts are ongoing to arrest Babangida, the suspected ringleader of the syndicate, and other accomplices who fled during the raid.

In a related incident, police on routine night patrol recovered an abandoned motorcycle around 1:00 a.m. on the same day in Wuro Birji, Akko LGA. A suspect fled the scene upon spotting officers and left behind a black Jincheng Kasea motorcycle with registration number DKU 099 UK.

“The motorcycle has been taken into custody, and investigations are underway to identify the fleeing suspect and the rightful owner of the bike,” Abdullahi added.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid ongoing efforts to curb vehicle theft across the state.
