The International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase-Ipo, and the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, have entered into a formal partnership aimed at strengthening technical education and vocational training in Nigeria.
The collaboration was sealed through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which outlines joint efforts to enhance skill acquisition, expand academic pathways, and improve industrial relevance for students across both institutions.
Under the agreement, students from the Federal Polytechnic, Offa will be able to undertake industrial training and internship programmes at IVTEC, leveraging its facilities and technical expertise. In return, IVTEC graduates will gain access to Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes at the Polytechnic in related disciplines.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, IVTEC Rector, Dr. Salihu Yaru, reaffirmed the college’s commitment to producing highly skilled manpower capable of driving global economic and social change. He praised the Polytechnic for embracing a partnership that promotes practical, hands-on education and mutual institutional growth.
A delegation from the Polytechnic, led by Deputy Rector (Academics), Dr. Peter Egbele, inspected IVTEC’s facilities, including departments of Entrepreneurship, Hospitality and Tourism, Building Construction, Electrical Installation, HVAC, Welding and Fabrication, and ICT. Dr. Egbele, representing the Rector, Engr. (Dr.) Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, FNSE, described the collaboration as a significant milestone and commended IVTEC’s infrastructure and vision.
Dr. Isiaka Olasunkami Azeez, Director of Internal Quality Assurance at the Polytechnic, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the National Board for Technical Education’s (NBTE) directive for polytechnics to prioritize skills development. He added that the partnership would enhance students’ technical proficiency and industrial competitiveness.
The MoU was signed by top officials from both institutions, including IVTEC’s Rector, Dr. Yaru Salihu; Mrs. Oyelowo Adebimpe, representing IVTEC’s Registrar; Dr. Steven Babalola, Polytechnic Librarian; Dr. Samuel Obaje, Dean of the School of Engineering; and other senior academic and administrative personnel.
The partnership marks a new chapter in inter-institutional cooperation and sets a precedent for advancing skills-based education in Nigeria.
