FG Warns Against Incorrect Use of President Tinubu’s Official Title

Date:

The Federal Government has expressed concern over repeated errors in the official appellation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling on media organisations and institutions to ensure strict adherence to the correct title in all references going forward.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, raised the concern in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja through his media aide, Yomi Odunuga.

According to the statement, the clarification became necessary following what it described as an incorrect reference to the President in a national daily publication dated Wednesday, May 7, 2026.

Akume stressed that the proper and official designation remains: “His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He warned that inaccuracies in official titles undermine protocol and could lead to avoidable embarrassment in both print and digital publications.

The SGF urged journalists, publishers, and other stakeholders to verify official designations before publication, noting that accurate information can be confirmed through relevant government communication channels, including official social media platforms and email contacts.

He added that the Federal Government expects improved attention to detail in official reportage, particularly regarding the Presidency and other key state offices.
