Ali Modu Sheriff dismisses ADC coalition, predicts collapse within months

Former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has cast doubt on the viability of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the coalition will not survive the next three months due to internal competition for the 2027 presidential ticket.

Sheriff made the remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, arguing that the presidential ambitions of key political figures within the coalition would lead to its disintegration.

The ADC recently gained attention as a coalition of opposition leaders—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi—aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general elections.

Following the coalition’s launch, both Amaechi and Obi publicly expressed interest in running for president in 2027. Speculation also remains strong that Atiku will join the race under the ADC banner
