Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan must do more to convince Nigerians he is a viable alternative in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Televisionās Morning Show on Thursday, Muhammad-Baba said Jonathan needs to rebrand himself and prove to Nigerians that he is not the same leader from his previous tenure.
His comments come amid growing speculation that the former president may be preparing to contest the 2027 presidency, potentially going head-to-head with the incumbent, President Bola Tinubu.
While it remains unclear under which party Jonathan might runāpossibly the Peopleās Democratic Party (PDP)āthe ACF spokesman emphasized the need for any aspiring candidate to earn public trust by presenting a fresh and credible image.
āGoodluck Jonathan could be a candidate,ā Muhammad-Baba said. āBut he needs to do more to sell himself, to offer himself as an alternative, and show that heās now different from the Goodluck Jonathan we knew.ā
He added that given the current economic hardship, any politician, regardless of region, must go the extra mile to persuade Nigerians they can offer a genuine solution to the nationās woes.
