Police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, adding that investigations are ongoing and assuring the public that justice will be served.

Ajibade, who is the President of Ijesa Sports Club, was suspended by the club on August 7 following allegations that he forced a 25-year-old man, identified as Ebenezer, to drink a poisonous substance over accusations of stealing two maize cobs from his farm.

The incident, which occurred in the Ireti Ayo area of Ilesa, took a tragic turn when Ebenezer’s father reportedly collapsed and died after being misinformed that his son had died from the poisoning. Police later clarified that doctors at Wesley Guild Hospital had stabilised Ebenezer and he survived.

Ojelabi said Ajibade was traced to his hometown, Ipetu Ijesa, and moved to Osogbo for further investigation. He remains in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

The command urged the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
