
Two people have died and another has been injured after a 59-year-old man ran over three pedestrians on Ojoo-Iwo Road in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident occurred around noon on Wednesday, August 6, according to eyewitness accounts gathered on Saturday. The victims, aged between 22 and 27, were reportedly walking along the road when they were struck by the suspect, who was said to be driving recklessly.
One male and one female victim died at the scene, while the third person sustained a fracture injury and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a government morgue in the city.
An eyewitness, Suraju Oguntoye, told PUNCH Metro that the driver, operating a Lexus vehicle, “ran over them” and caused the fatalities. Another witness, Chris Ogbonnaya, described the driving as dangerous and reckless.
The case was reported to police at the Testing Ground Division and has since been charged to court in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said, “There are confirmed records of only two fatalities, while a third individual is currently receiving close medical attention. Additionally, the suspect involved has been charged in court.”
Police said further updates would be provided as the case progresses.
