Human rights activist Annkio Briggs has stated that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, should have no involvement in the governance of Rivers State, having completed his eight-year tenure as governor.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Briggs criticised recent political developments in the state, including the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing them as illegal and unconstitutional.
She argued that the Senate’s voice vote, conducted under Senate President Godswill Akpabio to suspend the governor, was unlawful for such a critical decision. Briggs further alleged that Wike had expressed a preference for Fubara’s removal rather than suspension, which she said was beyond his authority.
According to Briggs, although both parties claim to have reconciled, Wike has no legal or political right to influence Rivers State’s governance. “He is now the Minister of the FCT and has no say whatsoever in Rivers State,” she stressed.
