‘I’m Not Sick’ — Akpabio Returns From London, Dismisses Health Rumours

Date:

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has returned to Nigeria after a short stay in London, dismissing widespread rumours that he was critically ill.

Akpabio, who had earlier attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva from July 29 to 31, proceeded to London for what he described as a “brief vacation.” His prolonged absence fueled speculation that he had been hospitalized abroad.

However, a statement from his media aide, Jackson Udom, confirmed that the Senate President arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, around 4:00 a.m. on Monday. He was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and loyal supporters.

Speaking to journalists upon arrival, Akpabio dismissed the health scare as baseless, assuring Nigerians of his readiness to lead a more vigorous legislative agenda when the Senate reconvenes.

“We are prepared for robust legislative engagements on resumption,” he said, emphasizing the importance of Nigeria’s strong representation at the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference in Geneva.

He further pledged closer cooperation with the executive and judiciary, promising Nigerians “more derivatives of democratic governance and effective collaboration with the other arms of government.”
