Nigerian singer, Olawale Ọlọfọrọ, popularly known as Brymo, has taken a swipe at Burna Boy, Davido, and other top Afrobeats stars, accusing them of exploiting rising artistes through endless remixes of trending songs.
In a post shared via his Instagram story, Brymo cautioned mainstream acts against what he described as the “vile” culture of hijacking new hit records under the pretense of helping younger talents.
“Dear Nigerian mainstream ‘A-listers,’ Burna [Boy], Davido and Co, stop jumping on every hit song in a remix, especially releases by newer acts,” Brymo wrote.
“Let other artistes find their own way. The pretending to be helping them reach higher is a ridiculous watch. Stop seeking relevance in the efforts of ones who know little about the business. It’s vile!” he added.
Brymo’s remarks have stirred conversations in the Nigerian music industry, where collaborations between established stars and newcomers are often seen as a pathway to wider recognition. While many argue such remixes boost exposure for rising acts, critics like Brymo insist the practice is exploitative and stifles originality.
The outspoken singer, who has consistently challenged industry norms, has once again positioned himself as a contrarian voice, questioning whether A-list artistes are truly supporting younger colleagues or simply riding on their momentary success.
