Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed the type of candidate he will support in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike said his support will go to a candidate capable of making Nigeria grow, protecting the nation’s interests, and preventing it from “going backwards.”
The former Rivers State governor, who still identifies with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized that his political choices are guided by justice, fairness, and equity rather than blind loyalty.
“I will support somebody who I know will make Nigeria grow, somebody who has the interest of Nigeria. I don’t believe in sentiment or mere emotion; I don’t do that,” he declared.
He further stressed that power must shift southward in 2027:
“In 2027, it will still be power moving to the South.”
Wike also defended his influence within the PDP, insisting that he remains one of its strongest assets:
“Nobody serves the interest of the PDP more than me. I’m a Nigerian and can contribute to the progress of this country. I’m not the first person who has served in one party while belonging to another party.”
The Minister hinted at an imminent showdown in the PDP, saying his group would meet to resist injustice within the party.
Observers say his comments could unsettle both the ruling APC and his own PDP, as Wike’s eventual choice in 2027 could sway a significant bloc of southern voters.
