Plateau Youths Condemn Mass Killings, Sacking of Bokkos Villages

Date:

A youth organisation under the banner of Bokkos Concerned Youths (BCY) has strongly condemned what it described as targeted attacks, mass killings, and the sacking of more than 10 communities by suspected Fulani militias in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Speaking at a press conference in Jos on Tuesday, BCY’s Public Relations Officer, Chris Daley, expressed deep concerns over the continued wave of violence and the annexation of villages in the council.

According to him, no fewer than 61 communities in Bokkos LGA have suffered violent attacks in recent years, leading to killings, large-scale displacement, and destruction of property worth billions of naira.

“The frequency and severity of the attacks have left us scared and our communities gripped with anxiety and uncertainty,” Daley lamented.

He further alleged that entire communities, including Hokk, Nawula, Pangkap, Luwapan, Fokoldep, Dangru, Bodel, Duun, and Dulu, have been completely taken over by the attackers. Families, he said, have been wiped out in coordinated assaults, with some households losing as many as nine to ten members in a single incident.

Daley accused certain military personnel of complicity, alleging that some officers were aiding and abetting the attackers, while no arrests had been made despite repeated incidents.

“We can no longer ignore the actions of corrupt personnel within the military in some communities within Bokkos LGA. Ever since these attacks occurred, no single arrest has been made,” he claimed.

The group urged the government to take urgent steps to restore peace, including empowering communities with resources to rebuild, working with traditional rulers and civil society groups to curb insecurity, and investing in education, economic development, and social services to address the root causes of violence and radicalisation.
