The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 68-year-old woman, Mrs. Victoria Madubuko, for allegedly flogging a 22-year-old girl, Nnenna Eke, to death in Ndiambe Ozuitem, Bende Local Government Area.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, the suspect used a native cane known locally as Okpete during an altercation with the victim. Eke reportedly fell ill after the assault and was taken to Tochi Hospital, where doctors confirmed her dead.
The police commissioner told journalists in Umuahia that the victim’s remains had been deposited at a mortuary in Akaelu, Bende LGA. He added that Mrs. Madubuko was in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Umuahia, while investigations continue.
In a separate incident, police also arrested a suspect over the fatal stabbing of a 31-year-old man, Chinonso Chukwuemeka, from Abayi village. Chukwuemeka was reportedly stabbed in the chest during a business-related quarrel with one Chimaobi Nwanne, who fled the scene to Umuezenta Mbasi village after the attack.
The victim was rushed to Akachukwu Hospital in Eastern Ngwa, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Nwanne was later tracked down and arrested by officers from the Eastern Ngwa Division. The police confirmed that investigations into the case are ongoing.
