Anglican Church Suspends Priest Over Alleged Fake Miracles in Anambra

Date:

The Church of Nigeria (Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion)) has suspended Reverend Ifunaya Maduka, Vicar of St Paul’s Parish, Nteje in Anambra State, over allegations of staged miracles and fake prophecies.

The suspension was announced by the Diocese on the Niger, led by Owen Nwokolo, who accused the cleric of engaging in what the church described as “arranged and manipulated” spiritual activities.

According to the church, Reverend Maduka allegedly involved individuals who were reportedly paid or induced to participate in staged prophetic sessions, which were then presented as genuine divine manifestations.

The suspension letter stated that the priest admitted to the allegations when confronted with evidence of the activities.

The church said the conduct amounted to deception, abuse of sacred trust, and actions capable of undermining the integrity of the clergy and the wider Christian faith.

As a result, he was suspended for six months without pay, with immediate effect, and directed to vacate the parish residence within four days.

He was also instructed to hand over all church property, documents, and funds in his possession to parish authorities.

The diocese announced that a disciplinary panel would be set up within one month to further investigate the matter and determine additional action in line with church regulations.

The Anglican leadership described the situation as a serious breach of ministerial ethics, noting that it had brought disrepute to the church and wounded the trust of the congregation.

The church added that the decision followed prayerful consideration and was aimed at preserving discipline, accountability, and the integrity of the priesthood.
