A fire outbreak has destroyed electrical appliances, gadgets, and other valuables worth millions of naira at a solar training centre in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening at the upper floor of the Salinsile building, which houses the training office of Sun Watt’s Solar and Electrical Company.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said the agency received a distress call at about 6:12 p.m. on October 2, 2025. Firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining sections of the building.
“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the training office of Sun Watt’s Solar and Electrical Company located on the upper floor of the Salinsile building was engulfed by fire. Officers of the agency swiftly swung into action, curtailed the blaze, and prevented it from spreading further,” Akinwande explained.
He added that while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, a significant portion of the building and its contents were salvaged through the intervention of the fire service. “The fire was completely extinguished, and properties worth millions of naira were saved. No casualty was recorded,” he noted.
Although the exact cause of the inferno has not been determined, the fire service confirmed that a post-incident investigation is underway to ascertain what triggered the blaze.
Eyewitnesses around the building said thick smoke was first noticed billowing from the upper floor before flames spread rapidly, prompting panic among shop owners and passersby. Swift intervention from the fire service, however, helped restore calm.
The incident has once again raised concerns about fire safety and the need for proactive measures in commercial and training facilities across the state. Authorities have urged residents and businesses to ensure compliance with safety regulations and keep firefighting equipment within reach.
