Nigerian Equities Market Hits Historic High as NGX Gains N963 Billion

The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) achieved a historic milestone on Tuesday, with market capitalisation reaching 151,456.91 basis points, driven by gains in shares of 28 firms, including SCOA Nigeria, Omatek, Consolidated Hallmark Holdings, and BUA Foods.

The equities market extended its bullish run as investors added N963 billion to market value. Market capitalisation, which opened at N95.171 trillion, closed at a record N96.134 trillion, reflecting a 0.01 per cent gain.

The NGX All-Share Index mirrored the upward trend, rising 1,516.10 points, or 0.01 per cent, to close at 151,456.91 on Tuesday, compared with 149,940.81 recorded on Monday. Despite the gains, market breadth ended slightly negative, with 30 losers against 28 gainers.

Top gainers on Tuesday included SCOA Nigeria, Omatek, Consolidated Hallmark Holdings, BUA Foods, and Vitafoam, while Livingtrust Mortgage Bank led the losers, falling 9.91 per cent to close at N4. Conoil and Africa Prudential Sovereign Trust also recorded declines.

Trading activity remained robust, with 551.92 million shares valued at N20.54 billion exchanged across 27,518 deals. Fidelity Bank led in volume with 59.1 million shares worth N1.18 billion, followed by VFD Group with 39.31 million shares valued at N424.7 million. Access Corporation and Guaranty Trust Holding Company traded 37.4 million and 31.4 million shares, valued at N950.1 million and N2.92 billion, respectively.
