Imported Petrol Now Cheaper Than Dangote Refinery Fuel, MEMAN Reports

Date:

The landing cost of imported petrol has fallen t N839.97 per litre as of October 21, 2025, making it cheaper than fuel from Dangote Refinery, which currently sells at N877 per litre.

The latest figures were released in the energy prices bulletin by the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN). The new landing cost reflects a slight decrease from N841.54 per litre recorded on October 20, 2025.

Chinedu Ukadike, spokesperson for the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association, confirmed the development on Friday, attributing it to price competitiveness in Nigeria’s deregulated downstream sector.

“Marketers now have the option to buy either at N877 per litre with Dangote Refinery or N839 with MEMAN,” Ukadike explained. “This liberalisation has created a price war, allowing marketers to choose cheaper products to sell at more affordable prices to Nigerians.”

Industry analysts suggest that the trend could lead to a reduction in retail petrol prices across the country. Checks by DAILY POST showed that ex-depot prices for Emedab, Gulf Treasure, Ardova, and Bono currently stand at N875 per litre, while Dangote Refinery maintains a rate of N877 per litre.

Meanwhile, retail outlets operated by NNPC, MRS, Ranoil, Total, and Emedab in Abuja were dispensing petrol at prices ranging between N950 and N965 per litre at the time of reporting.

The development highlights ongoing shifts in Nigeria’s fuel market as deregulation and competition continue to influence pricing dynamics.
