Paystack Suspends CTO Over Workplace Misconduct Allegations

Date:

Nigerian fintech startup Paystack has suspended its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following allegations of workplace sexual misconduct.

The company confirmed that a formal investigation has been launched after the allegations gained attention on social media on November 12, according to a report by TechCabal.

Olubi’s X (formerly Twitter) account has been deleted, but trending posts indicate that the contentious tweets were shared between 2009 and 2013, prior to his co-founding of Paystack.

The posts reportedly included sexually explicit jokes about colleagues, mentions of experiencing erections during meetings, and references to photographing coworkers’ thighs. Other content allegedly involved references to minors, bestiality, and sexualised anime characters.

Paystack told TechCabal: “We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.”

The company emphasized that the suspension aims to respect all parties involved and maintain the integrity of the investigative process, adding that no further comments will be made until the review concludes.

Paystack said it has established a “fair, transparent, and structured” process to conduct a thorough investigation.

“This process is guided by our policies, our values, and our commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all employees,” the company added.

The fintech firm stated that the investigation aligns with its internal policies and reflects its broader commitment to workplace safety and accountability.
