Atiku Joins ADC Ahead of 2027

Date:

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC — the coalition-backed platform he is expected to align with ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku confirmed the development on Monday via his X account, sharing a photo of himself holding his ADC membership card with the caption: “It’s official.”

His decision comes months after he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in July, amid the party’s prolonged internal crisis.

The move officially seals Atiku’s alignment with the ADC-led coalition, which he endorsed earlier in the year as a unified front for opposition leaders — including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal — to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

ROYAL NEWS reports that Atiku and several opposition figures had previously delayed their formal registration despite publicly supporting the coalition.

The coalition had unveiled the ADC as its platform for the upcoming elections, with former Senate President David Mark emerging as National Chairman, former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, and former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi as National Publicity Secretary.
