Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has said he is not part of any northern plot aimed at forcing President Bola Tinubu out of office, but remains fully committed to the democratic removal of the current administration in 2027.
Tambuwal made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, where he spoke about his recent encounters with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and his role in opposition politics.
The former governor alleged that his trial by the EFCC is politically motivated, linking it to his involvement in opposition activities under the African Democratic Party (ADC).
Asked whether the case against him was politically induced, Tambuwal replied in the affirmative, adding that those behind it were uneasy about his political engagements.
According to him, the concern stems from his active participation in efforts aimed at effecting a lawful and constitutional change of government at the next general election.
“I’m fully involved in a process that would democratically and lawfully send this government out of office,” Tambuwal said, adding that he is “100 percent committed” to the objective.
He also rejected claims that discontent with the Tinubu administration was limited to northern Nigeria, saying dissatisfaction cuts across the country.
While distancing himself from any regional conspiracy, Tambuwal said he is part of a broader national coalition seeking a change of leadership through constitutional means, with the transition expected on May 29, 2027.
