Fire Destroys Multi-Million Naira Properties at Ikeja’s Computer Village

Date:

A fire early Tuesday razed a one-storey commercial building on Somoye Street, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State, destroying goods worth several million naira.

Eyewitnesses said the incident, which occurred around midnight, involved a building housing dealers in computers and computer accessories. No casualties were reported, though a Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service official sustained minor injuries and received first aid from Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) personnel.

Following distress alerts, operatives from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) promptly responded and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring structures.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. The building, primarily used for the storage and sale of computers and accessories, contained highly combustible materials, which contributed to the rapid spread of the blaze.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the entire upper floor of the building was destroyed and that all goods and properties inside were completely lost.

“Upon arrival, the LASEMA Response Team conducted a risk assessment and cordoned off the affected area. Safety measures were activated to prevent damage to adjoining buildings and the surrounding environment,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

He added that the building suffered partial structural compromise, necessitating immediate evaluation to ensure safety.

Firefighting operations have concluded, while damping-down activities continued to eliminate residual heat and prevent re-ignition. Traders, residents, and sympathizers gathered at the scene as shop owners assessed their losses.

Emergency and regulatory agencies have commenced investigations to determine the cause and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
