Kwankwaso Meets Aregbesola, ADC Leaders Amid Reported Defection Talks

Date:

The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Thursday met with the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, amid reports of ongoing discussions ahead of a possible defection to the opposition party.

Sources indicated that the meeting forms part of consultations between Kwankwaso and the ADC leadership as talks progress over his potential move to the party.

Following the meeting with Aregbesola, Kwankwaso also held separate discussions with ADC leaders from Kano State at his residence in Abuja.

The development comes days after the former Kano State governor hosted Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, and Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, during a meeting widely seen as part of ongoing opposition consultations.

Kwankwaso also disclosed via his official Facebook page that Seriake Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West Senatorial District, was among political figures who recently visited him at his residence in Kano State.

The series of meetings has further fueled speculation about emerging political alignments ahead of future electoral contests, though no formal announcement has yet been made regarding Kwankwaso’s defection.
