NDA Disowns Viral Reports on Cadet Sanctions, Says Process Is Routine

Date:

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has dismissed viral social media reports detailing disciplinary sanctions against some cadets, describing the publications as unauthorised.

In a statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Reuben Kovangiya, the academy said the reports followed its recently conducted Commandant’s Orders at its headquarters in Afaka, Kaduna.

The NDA clarified that Commandant’s Orders are standard administrative and disciplinary procedures used within the military to address infractions among cadets.

According to the academy, sanctions are applied based on the severity of offences and are guided by provisions in the NDA Cadets’ Handbook on Discipline and Administration.

It listed possible penalties to include confinement, relegation, withdrawal, and dismissal, noting that some cadets were indeed withdrawn or dismissed after being found guilty of various offences.

However, the academy stressed that details of such disciplinary actions are not made public, maintaining that the circulating reports did not originate from official sources.

“The academy does not indulge in publicising administrative procedures or unconscionable actions, in line with military ethics, traditions, and the principle of confidentiality,” the statement said.

It added that the viral publications may have been generated by individuals seeking attention or relevance.

The NDA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict discipline and upholding high moral and academic standards, noting that it has zero tolerance for misconduct.

It also assured the public of its continued focus on training officers for the Armed Forces of Nigeria through a combination of military, academic, and character development programmes.
