Aisha Yesufu Says She’ll Oppose Peter Obi If He Seeks Second Term

Date:

Activist Aisha Yesufu has said she would strongly oppose Peter Obi if he becomes president and decides to serve beyond a single term, insisting he must honour his commitment to a one-term presidency.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Monday, Yesufu said Obi had repeatedly pledged to serve only one term if elected and should be held accountable to that promise.

“If Mr. Peter Obi gets into office and decides to do more than one term, I, Aisha Yesufu, said it here, I will oppose him with everything in me because he gave his word, and if he has given his word, he has to stick to his word,” she said.

She noted that Obi’s position on a single-term presidency was not a recent development, explaining that he had made the pledge before the 2023 general election.

According to her, she personally sought clarification from the former Anambra State governor after the election and received reassurance that the commitment remained unchanged.

“Yes, he told me he meant it,” she said, adding that she publicly shared the assurance based on his reaffirmation.

Yesufu stressed that any attempt by Obi to reverse the pledge would attract opposition, stating that political leaders must be held accountable for promises made to Nigerians.

However, she expressed confidence that Obi would honour his word, describing him as a leader known for keeping his commitments.
