Nigerian Air Force Conducts Deadly Airstrike in Sambisa Forest

Date:

The Nigerian Air Force (Nigerian Air Force) has conducted a successful airstrike on terrorist hideouts in the Sambisa Forest, killing several insurgents and destroying key structures. The operation took place on Monday, April 20, 2026, as part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East.

The strike was carried out under Operation Hadin Kai, a military campaign targeting insurgent groups in the region. According to the Air Force, the mission was based on credible intelligence indicating terrorist movement within the forest.

Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, confirmed that fighter jets were deployed to engage the targets with precision strikes. He said the operation resulted in the neutralisation of several terrorists and the destruction of their logistics base.

The Air Force described the mission as part of sustained efforts to weaken and dismantle terrorist capabilities in the area. It added that the operation was carefully executed to minimise collateral damage.

Authorities further confirmed that no civilian casualties were recorded during the airstrike, reinforcing the military’s commitment to precision targeting in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
