Former Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi Dies From Injuries After Reported Airstrike

Date:

Former Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi has died from injuries sustained in a reported airstrike, according to Iranian state media.

The state-run IRNA reported early Friday that Kharrazi, who headed Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, had been wounded days earlier and later died from his injuries.

He served as foreign minister of the Iran between 1997 and 2005 and had in recent years acted as an adviser to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

IRNA described him as having “died a martyr,” a term commonly used in Iranian state narratives for figures killed in conflict-related incidents.

Reports indicated that the strike, which allegedly involved Israel and the United States, also caused other casualties, though details remain limited and unverified independently.

Some earlier claims circulating in state-linked reports suggested additional high-level figures were affected in the wider wave of strikes, but these accounts have not been independently confirmed.

Further official clarification from Iranian or international authorities is still awaited as investigations and reporting continue.
