Nigeria Police Force Arrests Suspect, Debunks Viral Fake Video Claiming Terror Attack in Abuja

Date:

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media alleging an ongoing terrorist attack in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, describing the claim as false and misleading.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said on Friday that no such incident occurred, stressing that the video was deliberately fabricated to incite panic and mislead the public.

According to him, preliminary investigations showed that the footage was compiled using unrelated clips sourced from online platforms to create a false narrative aimed at causing fear and undermining public confidence in the nation’s capital security system.

He added that operatives of the police have arrested one Pam Joseph in connection with the creation and dissemination of the misleading content.

Placid said the arrest followed credible intelligence and digital forensic analysis that linked the suspect to the origin and spread of the fake video.

He warned that while citizens have the right to freedom of expression, such rights do not include the spread of misinformation capable of threatening public peace and national security.

The police further urged members of the public to verify information before sharing and avoid actions that could incite fear or disorder.

He confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded, adding that the police will continue monitoring digital platforms to curb misinformation.
