ADC Mourns Fallen Soldiers, Faults Government Over Rising Insecurity

Date:

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed condolences over the killing of Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah and other soldiers in a recent attack in Borno State, while raising concerns about Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

In a statement, the party commended the bravery of the fallen troops but linked the incident to what it described as a deteriorating national security environment.

It also referenced the recent decision by the United States Embassy in Nigeria to withdraw some personnel from Abuja, describing it as a reflection of declining confidence in the country’s safety situation.

The ADC criticised the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity, alleging that the administration has been more focused on political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections than on addressing escalating violence.

According to the party, attacks across various parts of the country have become more frequent and coordinated, leaving communities increasingly vulnerable.

While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies, the ADC said the killing of a senior military officer highlights deeper structural and leadership challenges within the national security framework.

It argued that repeated assurances from authorities have not translated into meaningful improvements in safety across affected regions.

The party called for a comprehensive review of the country’s security strategy, urging President Bola Tinubu in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief to prioritise reforms aimed at improving coordination and protecting lives.
