Ekiti Takes Action on Repeated Crashes, Plans Relocation in Iworoko-Ekiti

Date:

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has ordered the temporary relocation of residents and a drivers’ union motor park in Iworoko-Ekiti following another fatal auto crash, as part of measures to curb recurring accidents in the community.

The decision followed a recent truck accident along the Ifaki-Iworoko-Ado Ekiti road that killed a commercial motorcyclist and destroyed houses, displacing several residents and traders in the accident-prone area.

During a visit to the community, Oyebanji, represented by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, said the government was committed to pursuing lasting solutions rather than temporary fixes, while urging the community to propose measures to end the repeated carnage.

The governor noted that the crash spot has a history of deadly accidents, including an incident in 2019 that claimed 18 lives, stressing that difficult but necessary decisions would be taken to improve safety.

Community leaders and local officials proposed immediate interventions including speed bumps and concrete barriers at the sharp bend, while welcoming the government’s relocation plan and broader efforts to prevent further tragedies.
