Osun Guber: Fulani Farmers Deny Endorsing Any Governorship Candidate

Date:

Fulani farmers in Osun State have dismissed reports claiming they have endorsed a candidate ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, describing such claims as false and misleading.

The group, operating under the Osun Fulani Farmers Unity Forum, said no decision has been taken to support any political party or candidate.

In a statement issued by its president, Saheed Meiburuji, the forum clarified that any purported endorsement being circulated does not reflect the position of the Fulani community in the state.

“The Fulani community in Osun State has not, at this time, endorsed any political party or candidate,” the statement said.

The forum warned that individuals or groups making political declarations on behalf of the Fulani people without proper authorisation are not recognised by the community’s leadership.

It emphasised that any political engagement involving Fulani communities must follow established traditional processes, including consultations through recognised leaders such as the Seriki, Ardos, and other chieftaincy authorities.

According to the group, political parties and candidates seeking support must engage through these legitimate channels to ensure transparency and respect for community structures.

The forum also disclosed that it maintains a database of Fulani populations across Osun State, estimating the number at over 30,000 people spread across all local government areas.

It urged the public, political actors, and the media to verify information before dissemination and to respect due process and the integrity of Fulani traditional institutions.
