The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has dismissed social media posts circulating as results of its nationwide primaries, saying only the party’s National Executive Council, NEC, can release official outcomes.
The primaries were conducted across the country on May 28 and 29, 2026.
National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq, said in a statement that the authentic results are still in the custody of NEC.
He stressed that NEC remains the sole authority for collation, ratification and public announcement of candidates.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC,” Director stated.
He explained that until NEC concludes its process, any list being shared online does not represent the party’s position.
To finalise the process, the NDC said its National Leader, a former governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, has ordered the convening of a NEC meeting.
All NEC members have been directed to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
The substantive NEC meeting will hold on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, where the primary results will be considered and ratified.
The party assured stakeholders that the official list of candidates will be released after NEC’s deliberations.
Director said the public would be duly informed once the list of candidates to fly the NDC’s flag is submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The clarification follows widespread speculation online after the conclusion of the primaries.
The NDC is among parties repositioning ahead of the 2027 general election.
Its presidential ticket features Peter Obi as candidate with former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as running mate.
Party officials said the NEC meeting would also address other organizational matters ahead of the polls.
For now, the NDC has cautioned members and supporters against sharing or endorsing unverified results attributed to the party.
