Eid el-Kabir: Unilorin Christian Officials Strengthen Interfaith Unity

Christian members of the management team at the University of Ilorin on Friday visited their Muslim counterparts to celebrate Eid el-Kabir, reaffirming the institution’s long-standing culture of religious harmony, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence. The delegation was led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Olalere Adeyemi, alongside several principal officers and deans of the university.

During visits to the residences of the University Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, the hosts commended the Christian management team for sustaining a tradition that promotes unity beyond religious affiliations. They described the gesture as a reflection of the spirit of love, understanding, and cooperation that distinguishes the University community.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. Bakare-Odunola and her husband, Dr Rasheed Odunola, praised the initiative as a strong expression of interfaith harmony and noted that the culture of visiting one another during festive periods has contributed significantly to the peaceful atmosphere within the institution. Similar sentiments were expressed by Governing Council member and Vice Chancellor of Jimoh Babalola University, Prof. Muftau Adeniyi Ijaiya, who described the gesture as a symbol of inclusivity and peacebuilding.

The delegation also visited the Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Prof. K. W. Wahab, and the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, who both appreciated the goodwill visit and stressed that such engagements strengthen trust, staff morale, and collaboration within the University community. They noted that the University of Ilorin continues to serve as a model of religious tolerance and institutional stability.

The Sallah homage ended at the residence of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, where the delegation commended his leadership in promoting inclusivity and mutual respect. Represented by his wife, Mrs Muibat Adeola Egbewole, the Vice Chancellor urged members of the University community to continue embracing tolerance, unity, and selfless service, adding that such interactions help strengthen relationships and advance the institution’s vision of peace and excellence.
