NCWS wants more female prison inmates released

Date:

The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) has requested for the release of more female prison inmates during the decogestion exercise.

The group also decried alleged gender inequality in the decongestion of prisons across the federation, ROYAL NEWS has gathered.

NCWS’s National Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sofiya Ibrahim Ogoh, made the claim on Tuesday when the Society Committee against COVID19 (SOCOCOVID) visited the Suleja correctional centre in Niger State to secure the release of some inmates.

The group also lamented that females were also vulnerable to the dreaded coronavirus, stressing the need for the Federal Government to facilitate the process of releasing feminine prisoners.

After securing the release of five inmates, the National Coordinator of SOCOCOVID, Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, said the gesture was part of the vision of the body to go round the country to free convicts with light fines.
