An Ilorin Area Court on Wednesday remanded Bashiru Abdullahi for allegedly attacking a medical doctor, Ibrahim Adedo in whose hospital his wife was a patient.
The accused reportedly attacked the medical expert with a sharp object over an issue arising from N75,000 charged for surgical operation.
The Presiding Judge, Abdulrasak Abdulganiyu, who did not take the plea of defendant ordered his remand at Mandala Correctional Centre, Ilorin and adjourned the case to Sept. 4 for further mention.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Nyangi Ndifilike , told the court that the defendant went to the complainant’s office with scissors while drunk and intimidated him over the N75,000 charged for Caesarian Operation (CS) at Cottage Hospital, Ilorin.
Ndifilike said that the defendant paid N20, 000 out of N75, 000 charges for his wife’s baby delivery through CS and insisted her to be discharged from the hospital.
He said that the investigation is ongoing and prayed the court to remand the defendant in custody pending outcome of investigations.
Speaking on the sidelines of the court proceedings, Dr. Adebayo Lakadir, the Chairman of National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), called on the public to be tolerant with health workers who put their lives on the line to save patients.
Lakadri said that the association would not take the issue of assault lightly again.
The medical practitioner added that if the people did not to stop they will go on industrial action.
“You know if will go on industrial action is the masses that will suffer. Some people may loss their lives in the process
“We have shortage of staff and those on ground are over worked so people should tolerate and appreciate health workers”, he added.
