Date:

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, who inaugurated the building, emphasized the importance of transportation in the economic growth and development of the country.

Gbajabiamila said: “We must not play down the road transport union.

“The union contributes immensely to the Nigerian economy. I can assure you that your value to our economy is recognized at all levels.

“The government will continue to do what it can to help your industry prosper. We will also continue to invest significantly in road transport, which will expand its routes.”

He urged the union not to give in and to be ready to adapt to the new reality of social and economic changes, to prosper in any circumstance.

Gbajabiamila, who praised the RTEAN leadership for the feat, expressed the legislators’ willingness to work with the union to achieve national development goals.

Minister of State for Women’s Affairs Pauline Tallen praised the transport union for establishing a women’s wing to ensure gender balance, saying it was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda.

Tallen said there was hope for Nigeria and the country would be better off when the women were taken away.

Also speaking, the Minister for Labor and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige, the Represented Union (RTU), Mr. Amos Falonipe, said that the RTEAN House would help the union to fulfill its functions and objectives for the nation.

Ngige urged the union to continue supporting the Federal Government in its efforts to improve the nation’s economy through the renovation of transport infrastructure.

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Marshal Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi said the commission’s partnership with RTEAN was to ensure safer roads in the country.

According to him, the RTEAN House showed the unity, understanding and forward-thinking mindset of the people who now run the union’s affairs.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, praised RTEAN’s leadership for reforming and organizing the transport union by giving it a new perspective.

Ogunwusi praised the union for changing people’s perception of transport operators.

“I am very happy that the road administration of this country can be so organized. We want to thank the leadership of RTEAN. With what they are doing, there is great hope for our beloved country.

“A lot of people look down on transport unions, but now they’re redefining it. Keep up the good work,” said Ogunwusi.

The National President of the TUC, Quadri Olaleye, described the President of the RTEAN as an apostle of peace, saying that every economy required infrastructure that added to the quality of life.

Earlier, RTEAN President Alhaji Musa Maitakobi, who commended all stakeholders for the praise, said that the ruling of the Abuja Labor Court on October 13, 2020, which favored him, freed the union.

Maitakobi said the trial was the foundation of the union’s reform and achievements, saying the trial showed that the judiciary was the hope of ordinary citizens.

“Our goal is to reposition the road transport sector to support our commitment to reform public transport management to support government policies and the daily needs of Nigerians with their connectivity and mobility,” he said.

He called on relevant government agencies to deal with the establishment of the Transport Development Bank in the country.

Maitakobi said that transportation connects all sectors of the economy.
