Abducted victim Escapes After Bandit Abduction in Niger Community

Date:

One of four family members abducted by suspected bandits in Baban-Rami community, Mashegu Local Government Area, has escaped captivity, while efforts continue to rescue the remaining victims, security sources have said.

The victims were identified as Suwaiba Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, Khadija Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, Fatima Sahabi Abdullahi, and Nafisa Sahabi Buba Abdullahi. A security source told Zagazola Makama that Nafisa successfully fled from the abductors.

The abduction followed an earlier attack in which the family head, Alhaji Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, was shot dead by suspected armed bandits during the same wave of violence in the area.

In a related development, suspected bandits reportedly detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along a bypass road near a damaged bridge in the forest axis around New Bussa.

Sources said the attackers also shot dead a cyclist travelling along the route, while a truck driver heading towards Wawa unknowingly drove over another IED, which exploded and damaged the vehicle.

The whereabouts and condition of the truck driver were not immediately known at the time of filing this report.

Security operatives, including tactical teams and local vigilante groups, have since been deployed to the affected areas and are currently trailing the suspected perpetrators as rescue and clearance operations continue.
