Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has presented Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to the chairmen of the state’s 20 local government areas, in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots governance.
The presentation took place on Thursday in Abeokuta during the Christmas festivities, in fulfillment of a pledge made by the governor.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, Abiodun commended the council chairmen for their efforts in delivering development at the local level. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to close collaboration with local governments to improve the welfare and living standards of residents.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Ogun State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Dr. Afolasade Adeyemo, described the gesture as timely and commendable, thanking the governor for honoring his promise.
Adeyemo, who is also Chairman of Odeda Local Government, praised Abiodun’s achievements in sectors such as education, housing, healthcare and road infrastructure. She said the governor’s ISEYA agenda had helped reposition the state for sustainable growth.
The local government chairmen said the vehicles would improve their ability to reach rural communities and respond more effectively to the needs and aspirations of residents at the grassroots level.
