The Adamawa State Police Command is investigating two separate cases of culpable homicide linked to domestic violence in Madagali and Gombi Local Government Areas.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the first incident took place in Pallam District, Madagali.
According to preliminary findings, a violent dispute broke out between two co-wives—Rhoda Anthony, 55, and Victoria Anthony, 36—both married to one Anthony Pallam. During the altercation, Victoria’s 16-year-old son, Ijai Anthony, allegedly struck his stepmother, Rhoda, on the head with a wooden object.
The police said Rhoda was rushed to Cottage Hospital, Madagali, but was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment. Both the suspect and his mother have been placed in protective custody pending further investigation.
In a separate incident in Fotta District, Gombi, a man identified as Idi Buba allegedly stabbed his biological father, Buba Jelli, during a domestic argument.
The victim sustained knife wounds to the neck and back and was taken to the local Primary Health Care Center, where he later died from his injuries. Police arrested the suspect at the scene and recovered the weapon, which will serve as evidence.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has condemned the incidents, describing them as deeply troubling, particularly because they involve family members.
He urged residents to seek peaceful ways of resolving domestic disputes rather than resorting to violence, stressing the importance of restraint and lawful conflict resolution.
Nguroje confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will face prosecution once inquiries are complete.
