Adekunle Gold Receives Historic Recognition in Lagos

Date:

Nigerian music sensation Adekunle Gold has been immortalized in Lagos with a street bearing his name, a recognition of his contributions to music and his roots in the city. The 38-year-old singer shared the special moment with fans on Instagram, posting a video from the unveiling ceremony.

In the clip, Adekunle Gold was joined by his wife, fellow musician Simi, and their daughter, Deja, as they unveiled the signpost reading “Adekunle Kosoko Street.” The family collectively pulled back the veil, marking the official dedication.

The singer expressed his gratitude on social media, writing: “Adekunle Kosoko Street. The city that raised me now carries my name. Thank you, Lord, for my many blessings.”

The honour carries historical significance, as Adekunle Gold comes from the Kosoko royal family of Lagos Island. His lineage traces back to Oba Kosoko, the former king of Lagos who ruled from 1845 to 1851, further deepening the personal meaning of the recognition.

The “Sade” crooner, renowned for blending Afrobeat, highlife, and contemporary pop sounds, now joins a select group of cultural figures whose names have been enshrined in Lagos landmarks. Fans and admirers have flooded social media with congratulations, celebrating both his musical achievements and the tribute to his heritage.

The naming ceremony not only recognizes Adekunle Gold’s artistic accomplishments but also underscores his lasting impact on the Lagos music scene and the broader Nigerian cultural landscape
