American pop superstar Taylor Swift has quashed rumours suggesting she was envious of her best friend Selena Gomez’s recent marriage. Gomez tied the knot with producer Benny Blanco in late September, with Swift among the guests.
Following the wedding, speculation emerged that Swift had jokingly referenced Gomez “beating her to the altar” during her speech. Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Swift clarified the nature of her remarks.
“I did do some light teasing about the way we dressed in 2008, the year we met. It was the year of deep, deep V-neck. It was the year of colorful skinny jeans,” Swift said. She emphasized that her speech focused on celebrating Gomez, not herself, noting, “I made a point to not mention anything about my engagement.”
The Cruel Summer singer added that she was genuinely happy to witness her friend’s milestone. “I talked about how happy I am for her and just how beautiful it’s been to get to be a part of her life, but I did not make it about me,” she explained.
Swift also revealed why she hadn’t informed her longtime friend Ed Sheeran about her engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. According to the singer, Sheeran doesn’t own a phone, making email and FaceTime the only ways to contact him.
The two pop icons have been close friends for over 15 years, and Swift’s comments reaffirmed that her bond with Gomez remains strong despite circulating gossip.
