Media entrepreneur and author Kehinde Ajose has criticized controversial singer Portable and social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), describing them as chronic clout chasers who thrive on manufactured drama for public attention.
The long-running feud between the two escalated recently, with both parties releasing diss tracks aimed at each other. Tensions flared after Portable accused VDM of exploiting the death of singer Mohbad to gain attention. VDM responded with a diss track, prompting a swift reply from Portable.
Ajose, a visibility strategist, said the public spat is a calculated strategy for relevance rather than a genuine dispute. “Yes, VDM started on a good note, but most of what he does these days is pure clout chasing,” he said. “He understands that attention is currency. The same applies to Portable—he’s more famous for controversy than music.”
According to Ajose, both figures use outrage and online spectacle as tools to remain in the spotlight, rather than focusing on their craft or talent. “This isn’t about artistic rivalry. It’s about staying relevant through controversy,” he added.
Ajose described the approach as unsustainable, warning that audiences often lose interest in content lacking substance. “They are masters at stirring outrage. But that’s a volatile brand model,” he stated.
The feud has reportedly been simmering for months but has now become more visible due to the exchange of diss tracks and aggressive social media engagement.
Ajose concluded by urging both individuals to evolve beyond controversy and be recognized for their actual skills. “The real challenge is transitioning from fame driven by drama to respect built on talent,” he said. “Right now, the feud is just noise.”
