The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of 183 suspected internet fraudsters in a raid conducted in Warri, Delta State, by troops of the 63 Brigade and Sector 1 Joint Task Force (South South) Operation Delta Safe (OPDS).
The operation, carried out on July 19, 2025, followed intelligence reports about cybercrime activities in the area, according to a statement by Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Asaba.
All suspects, who are male and aged between 16 and 29, were apprehended at various apartments that reportedly functioned as internet fraud training centers.
Items recovered during the raid included 274 assorted laptops, 87 mobile phones, 9 laptop chargers, a table phone, and 2 WiFi devices.
Captain Rijau noted that the suspects are currently undergoing preliminary investigation, and further actions will follow in line with existing legal procedures.
He emphasized the Army’s commitment to supporting security agencies in combating cybercrime and maintaining public safety across the region.
“The operation demonstrates our resolve to rid the society of cybercrime and other related criminal activities,” he said.
The Army urged the public to continue providing timely information that can aid security operations and assured that all leads will be thoroughly investigated.
