The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) chapter, has commenced indefinite strike to protest over non-payment of lecturers’ salaries.
The decision was formally communicated on Thursday in a letter to the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu.
The letter, signed by the branch Chairman, Dr. O. A. Fagbuagun, and Financial Secretary, Mr. Ngwu Benitho, stated that the industrial action would continue until all affected staff receive their outstanding entitlements.
ASUU-FUOYE said its action is in line with a directive from the union’s national leadership.
“The National Executive Council of ASUU has resolved that where academic staff salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month, the branch concerned must suspend academic activities until payment is made,” the statement read.
It added that the strike would be “total, comprehensive, and indefinite,” and only suspended once all owed salaries are cleared.
The action is expected to disrupt academic activities on campus, with no clear indication of how soon the standoff might be resolved.
