The National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) in Kwara State has appealed to the striking university teachers to sheath their swords and call-off their industrial action in the interest of the students.

The league said it feels for the students who are direct victims of the prolonged Association Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) strike.

The league, equally appealed to the federal government to prioritise meeting the demands of the members of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities ( ASUU) so as to bring an end to the agony of the students and their parents, occasioned by the ASUU’s strike.

The chairman of NALVEJ in Kwara State, Alhaji Tunde Akanbi made the appeal in a statement signed by the league’s publicity secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin on Friday.

The league advised the federal government and ASUU leadership to return to the negotiating table to iron out the grey areas in the contentious 2009 FG/ ASUU agreement.

It suggested that the government, in the alternative could start piecemeal implementation of the 2009 agreement it reached with ASUU, after securing the understanding of ASUU leadership.

“NALVEJ appeals to ASUU to reconsider it’s current stand in the interest of the nation and call-off its strike action. We are pleading with ASUU leadership to consider the plight of the students and their parents, in calling off the strike action,” the league added.
